When I grow up I want to be Nigel Slater. His writing is didactic in that it teaches you how to trust your cooking instinct and how simplicity should never be dissed. He's written several gorgeous books on the subject and after reading any or all of them, you feel a better person, not just a better cook.
A new book is on the way. One that combines growing your own things to eat and how to use them, not about how to successfully grow everything. As he puts it, it's the joy of "watching something grow."
I'm one to be classified under "horrible" when it involves "gardening skills." So it's a quite affirming to see and hear someone as deft as Mr. Slater telling me it's okay if I only get a few tomatoes from my plants, just as long as I gave it a go and really, truly enjoyed the only-child orbs.

As silly and distasteful as it sounds, I'm proclaiming now I'm off to find some cabbage plugs.
